Ipanema is the fashionable and trendy beach of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Ipanema is also a neighbourhood of the Southern zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, neighbouring Copacabana, Leblon and Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon.
IPANEMA BEACH AND NEIGHBOURHOOD COASTLINE:
Ipanema is set at a 3,5 km coastline south of the city of Rio de Janeiro, that starts at Arpoador Rock and ends at the base of the Twin brothers Peak Mountain.
Ipanema shares it´s coastline with Arpoador beach and neighbourhood (begginning), and Leblon beach and Neighbourhood (end). Ipanema is set at the middle of this coasline occupying the biggest area (2 km).

The area where Ipanema is actually set, belonged to José Antonio Moreira Filho, the Barão de Ipanema (Baron of Ipanema).
Ipanema means "bad water" in Indian dialect, but this historical fact does not relate at all with the clear blue sea and amazing white sands of this beach.
