SUGAR LOAF MOUNTAIN COMPLEX RIO DE JANEIRO BRAZIL:
The Sugar Loaf Mountain complex is one of Rio de Janeiro´s most famous trademarks and postcard.
The Sugar Loaf mountain complex is located at Urca neighbourhood, in the southern area of Rio de Janeiro, 10 minutes away from Copacabana neighbourhood, and 20 minutes away from Ipanema and Leblon neighbourhoods.
THE SUGAR LOAF COMPLEX - CABLE CAR TOUR:
The Sugar Loaf complex´s main attraction consists in a teleferical, cable car ride algong and through three teleferical stations: 1) Ground station, 2) Urca Mountain Station, and 3) Sugar Loaf Mountain Station.
The shortest mountain of the Sugar Loaf complex, and first stop of the teleferical tour is named Morro da Urca Mountain, and it's the first stop of the cable cars. Morro da Urca Mountain is 224 meters tall. This is where you find the restaurant, and the amphitheater.
The Sugarloaf Mountain, (second and final stop of the cable cars), at Rio de Janeiro, itself, is 395 meters tall, and is the final stop of the telesferical ride.
SUGAR LOAF COMPLEX - MORE THAN JUST CABLE CAR RIDE:
The Sugar Loaf Mountain complex of Rio de Janeiro, is more than just a cable car tour. It also offers the posibility of doing some other activities. For instance trekking: There are two official trekking lanes open -at the top and at the base of the hills.
At the base of Morro da Urca Mountain, the visitor will find a very enjoyable trekking lane called "Pista Cláudio Coutinho", or Claudio Coutinho's Lane. It's a path along the base of Urca Mountain. As you pass along, you will be able to appreciate small monkeys and typicall Brazilian flora and fauna.
Other activities at the Sugar Loaf complex are: Boat tours along the Guanabara Bay, mountain climbing, sightseeng, and enjoying one of the two beaches located at Urca neighbourhood.
BEACHES AT URCA NEIGHBOURHOOD RIO DE JANEIRO:
At Urca neighbourhood are located three beaches of Rio de Janeiro: Red Beach, "Praia Vermelha" (at the base of the Sugar Loaf Mountain, Rio de Janeiro, an ideal stop after the cable car tour); Urca beach "Praia da Urca", beach; and finally Outside beach "Praia de Fora beach", where fortress Sao Joao is located.

The Sugar Loaf mountain is located at Urca neighbourhood, Rio de Janeiro´s smallesT neighbourhood, but one of Rio's most pintoresc areas. With six squares and only 16 streets, it is home to Brazilian residents, but most importantly, it´s the home of Rio de Janeiro´s most acclaimed postcard, the Sugarloaf (Pão de Açúcar).

SUGAR LOAF MOUNTAIN AT URCA NEIGHBOURHOOD RIO DE JANEIRO:
The visitor will find at Urca neighoburhood, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, many attractions like the art-deco houses from the early 20th century, the Casino on the beach, surrounded by the beautyfull and amazing Guanabara Bay. Some artists live here, including famous singer Roberto Carlos (known as the King in Brazil, like Elvis in the U.S.).
URCA HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE:
Urca neighbourhood, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is also well know due to it´s historical role and relevance in Brazilian history. This is where allegedly Estácio de Sá founded Rio de Janeiro in the year 1565.
The oldest construction still found standing is the São João Fortress, located at the Outside beach (Praia de Fora), from the year 1618. It was renovated in 1872, in order to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Brazil's independence. 15 cannons were installed for the ocation.
A special permitt (it´s a military area) is necesarry to visit either the Sao Joao Fortress, or the Outside beach, at Urca neighbourhood, home of the Sugar Laof complex, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
